Retirement after teaching for more than
20 years (kindergarten/first-grade) has enabled Marjorie to resume
her interest in watercolor painting.
Her life's journey has included
living 3 years in Havana, one year in La Rochelle, France, plus
shorter residencies in Guatemala and Mexico. She has traveled to
Europe more than a dozen times and has also made numerous trips
to western and eastern Canada. Marjorie has visited Arizona often
and has studied various Native-American tribal designs. She incorporates
these design concepts into her watercolors.
This background has fostered Marjorie's
over-arching interest in vibrant colors, and she has applied this
fascination to numerous art forms in the past: cake decorating
(numerous awards), textiles, oils, and to her current concentration
on watercolors.
Marjorie's subjects are principally
architectural: bridges, churches, and other structures of historical
interest. She does these in glowing, forceful, defining tints.
Her work is also noteworthy for its exciting portrayal of rivers
and the sky in all its changing modes.
